You Might Be An Entrepreneur If…

Entrepreneurs can be a quirky bunch, when observed from the outside. And while some of their habits might seem a little peculiar or extreme to the nine-to-five set, it is exactly these behaviors that enable them to thrive as small business owners.

Think you’ve got what it takes to be a successful business owner? You might be an entrepreneur if…

You don’t watch the clock

Entrepreneurs tend to be obsessed with getting the task done right, as opposed to punching out at 5pm. This can sometimes work against the entrepreneur as well, as they can lose track of time and risk missing deadlines. Steve Jobs famously delayed product launches because details weren’t, in his mind, absolutely perfect. But it was this obsessive focus on getting things right at any cost that has made the Apple brand synonymous with innovation.

You like to dance with failure

You can’t be an entrepreneur and blend in with the crowd: you have to stand out. Entrepreneurs understand that in order to move away from the herd, you need to take calculated risks. And with risk you chance failure. Most people will avoid failure like the plague. Entrepreneurs take chances, fail, shake it off, learn from their mistakes, get back on the horse and take more chances. This pattern might seem very stressful and even nonsensical to someone who doesn’t have an entrepreneurial spirit. Entrepreneurs understand the reasoning behind “failing their way to the top.”

You “indulge” in self-care

You put yourself first because you understand the importance of being self-reliant. Successful entrepreneurs understand that it’s difficult to build something if your body is falling apart. Others will think smaller, that the needs of the corporation are more important. They will even see nobility in their self-sacrifice. An entrepreneur understands that if she isn’t eating, sleeping, or exercising properly, the corporation doesn’t exist. To the successful entrepreneur, self-care is not an indulgence, it’s a matter of survival.

You are always learning

Successful business owners are always reading, keeping up with trends, trying new things, and evolving. This behavior might seem erratic or even flaky to the non-entrepreneur, but it is actually how the small business owner adapts for survival.

You’re a doer

There’s a time for planning and there’s a time for action. Entrepreneurs spend more time doing. They understand that sometimes they will fail more often, but sitting back and analyzing for too long can mean a missed opportunity. Plus it will help them learn what DOES work faster. Execution is the path to success.
