Goals for Your Small Business

Whether it’s a new year, a new quarter, a new day, or even if it’s just time toshake things up, every small business owner should nurture a list of goals which go beyond simply “getting more business” or “making more money!”

While growing your business might be one of your ultimate goals, here are some significant “mini-goals” that will help keep you productive and in good form for helping you achieve your more lofty goals.

Do more in less time

When are you most productive? Are you surprised by how much or how little time it takes for you to accomplish certain items on your to-do list? Is there anything you can do to maximize your time? Do you need to reorganize your schedule, your procedures, your workspace, or your priorities? Can you “find” more time or do more in less time?

Delegate

What jobs can you afford to delegate? Will it save you time, money, energy or aggravation if you enlisted the help of others? Work out the pros and cons and get as much off your plate as possible.

Learn new skills

What are you doing to keep up with (and surpass) your competition? Nowadays, there is a wealth of inexpensive (even free!)information at our fingertips. Look into books,e-books, courses, workshops, seminars, webinars, and podcasts and make sure you become a leading expert in your industry.

Network more

Networking will find you new clients, new allies in business, and more emotional support. If you feel like business is stagnating, try meeting new people (or even reconnecting with some old contacts).

Get healthy

Although it seems counter-productive to step away from the office and step on a treadmill, getting healthy is actually a great way to improve your productivity at work. Getting fit, eating right, and getting enough sleep will give you more strength and stamina to work on your business and your concentration and focus will improve as well.

Realign your brand

Just as the tires on your car need realigning every so often, be sure to check in on your branding once in a while. Are you attracting the right clients? Are you being perceived the way you want to be perceived? Does your small business need to take a different direction? Does your brand need to adapt to changes?
