When you’re a small business owner, you may find that you are constantly perfecting your branding. Whether it’s the start of a new year, a new quarter, a new launch, a new season, or if it’s something you do on a regular basis, checking in on your brand is always a good idea. Here are a few simple questions you can ask yourself periodically to make sure your brand stays sharp:
Do you really like your clients?
Are you excited to be working for the people you work for? It’s great if you can line yourself up with the types of buyers who pay you well for work you love doing, but what about taking it to the next level? Are you working with people where it feels like you’re all moving in the same direction towards something greater? Are you attracting clients who share your values and attitudes?
Do people stop and notice your brand?
When you meet someone new and tell them what you do, do they seem intrigued or are they looking over your shoulder for someone else to talk to? Does your elevator pitch grab them? Does your business card stand out when it’s mixed in a pile with a bunch of others? Does your brand feel unique and special? Are people surprised (in a good way) when you tell them what you do?
Do people remember you?
When you reconnect with people, do you get the feeling your brand made an impression on them? Do they remember you and what it is you do? Do they seem interested in talking to you again? Do they want to learn more about you?
Does your brand “stir” something in you?
Is there something about your branding that resonates with your values as a human being? Does representing your brand fill you with an intense sense of pride and authenticity? When your core values align with your brand values, you’ll know it; because it feels amazing! But it’s not an easy thing to achieve in that it takes a great deal of self-awareness as well as business savvy.
